nowcast GmbH, a Munich university spin-off founded in 2002, sells lightning detection under the LINET name. Customers can buy a LINET system to run their own detection network, import real-time numerical lightning data into their own systems, watch current and past thunderstorms in the LINET view browser tool, or query single strikes for damage claims through LINET Spot. Users include weather services, air traffic control and airport operators, insurers, energy suppliers and wind farm operators, telecoms and research institutes; logos include DWD, Allianz, the Bundeswehr, swissgrid and Croatia Control. UBIMET took a stake in 2013 and lists nowcast as a group company. Prices are not published.
